Are electric toothbrushes really better?

are electric toothbrushes really better

Manual toothbrushes have been around for hundreds of years now. However, Electric Toothbrushes are comparatively recent and not everyone has even tried one out yet. That leads us to our main question- are electric toothbrushes really better?

Well, to answer that question directly, I’d say that it does provide you with quite a few benefits over regular toothbrushes, but it has a few downsides of its own as well that you need to know about.

[To find out how exactly electric toothbrushes are better and the things you want to keep in mind, make sure that you read this article till the very end.]

Honestly, there are a lot of electric toothbrush models that differ substantially from one another. For instance, it’s really unfair to consider the Oral-B Vitality (click here to read my review) and the Oral-B Pro 8000 (click here to read my review) as the same thing just because they’re both electric toothbrushes.

You know what’s one of the models I really recommend? The Oral-B Pro 7000 Electric Toothbrush! See this post for more info.

What are the benefits that the Electric Toothbrushes have?

Electric Toothbrushes have quite a few benefits over regular ones- this much is pretty much undeniable.

Quoting DentalProductsReport,

“A lot of people are in a hurry and do a drive-by in the mouth,” says Anastasia Turchetta, RDH. “Electric toothbrushes give us a better chance of accomplishing what we need to do as hygienists, and that’s reducing inflammation, removing plaque and reducing hypersensitivity.”

The main positives of Electric Toothbrushes are as follows:

  • More Efficient: The Electric Toothbrushes are without doubt much more efficient at removing bacteria and keeping your overall oral health a lot better. However, don’t forget to consider using a Waterpik as well! (Click here to find out when you should use a Waterpik)
  • Easier to use: Electric Toothbrushes are also much easier to use than the regular ones and it is even more so for people with limited mobility. Quoting Healthline,

Electric toothbrushes does most of the work for you. They may be helpful for anyone with limited mobility…

  • An automated brushing experience: Electric Toothbrushes are a good choice because they also automate your overall brushing experience. You can actually know if you’re brushing too hard, or if you’re brushing for too long. All these help you customize your brushing experience and get the most of it.
  • Appeals more to kids: Another benefit of Electric Toothbrushes is that kids usually tend to brush a little more regularly with these because they seem to have fun with them.  (Click here to check out our review of the Sonicare for Kids Electric Toothbrush)

What are the main limitations for Electric Toothbrushes?

Naturally, not everything is positive about electric toothbrushes- they have their very own set of drawbacks as well that you need to know about before you finally choose to go with one of these models.

So, the main limitations of Electric Toothbrushes might be summed up into the following points:

  • Expensive: One of the main problems with Electric Toothbrushes is that they are much more expensive than regular ones. Even if you don’t consider premium models such as the Oral-B Genius 8000 (Click here to read my review of it), even much more basic models are more expensive than regular toothbrushes, which is a major problem.
  • Hard to find Brush-heads: Another limitation is that the brush-heads are not really easy to select or find when it comes to electric toothbrushes. This is a hassle that you have to put up with in order to get the higher level of efficiency that electric toothbrushes provide you with.

Are Electric Toothbrushes really better?

At the end of the day, it is safe to say that electric toothbrushes are mostly a better choice because of the features that they provide you with as well as the higher levels of functionality.

This is why models like the Oral-B Pro 7000 are loved (Click here to check this model out on Amazon!)

And, while regular toothbrushes are mostly a better choice if you want to stick to them or just want something more affordable, you need to keep in mind that there are affordable Electric toothbrushes out there as well such as the Oral-B Vitality (click here to view it on Amazon.)
